POMEROL
"Name from the Latin Pomum" fruits with seeds, mainly grapes.
"Flint polished axes from the Neolithic period were discovered there. During the gallo-roman period, Pomerus or Pomarus belonged to the vicus of condact from which came Libourne and its port which served a great part of the "Entre-deux-Mers".
The parish of Pomerol, also called Poumeyrol is attested since the XII century. It was formed by the river Barbanne surrounding ground and was a dependency of the viscountcy of castillon. At the beginning of the XII century, the hospitallers, settled in the Libourne's region decided the found the commanderie in Pomerol. The donation of the Barbannes's grounds by Sir Guillaume de SEGUR and his brothers represents the founding act of the commanderie. Today, Pomerol enjoys a worldwide reputation".

BOUNDARY STONE WITH THE MALTA CROSS
|
"the order of Saint-Jean-of-Jerusalem is born with the medium from XIe
century, when a hospital dedicated to saint Jean Baptist is founded
in Jerusalem. With the end of XIe century, Gerard melts the order of
hospital of Saint-Jean-of-Jerusalem. In 1530, Charles Quint gives the
island of Malta to hospital and those the title of knights of MALTA.
The hospital ones are established in the Livornese at the beginning
of XIIe century when they melt several commanderies, of which those of
Pomerol and Lalande. A gift allows the creation of the building of
Pomerol : Guillaume de Ségur and his brothers indeed offer the ground
of Barbanne on which the commandery is built of which there remains
today only the name of a locality. Terminals, stones punts of which
one of the two faces carries a Maltese cross carved in the mass,
delimited the field. Two of them still exist: the terminal known as "hones cross" was moved with the field of the commandery, close to
Catusseau and that of Rifat, behind the hippodrome of Cantereau. The
terminal of the Taillefer crossroads disappeared and that of Crutch
was torn off ".
